Tinea

Tinea is the name of a group of diseases caused by a fungus. Types of tinea include ringworm, athlete's foot and jock itch. Recent years have seen a rapid rise in tinea cases in our region probably due to fast lifestyle of its population and the hot and humid climate. To worsen the scenario, rampant use of over-the-counter use of topical steroid creams have resulted in extensive treatment resistant infections. Although these infections are usually not serious, but they can be quite uncomfortable. It is transmitted by direct contact with an infected person, from damp surfaces such as shower floors, or even from a pet. Maintenance of proper personal hygiene and certain preventive measures go a long way in preventing its development. Once you are infected it is extremely important to take the right treatment from a specialist. If followed correctly, the treatment methods can result in complete cure of the condition.
