Chemical Peeling
Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments used to remove damaged skin cells, revealing healthier skin underneath. There are different types of peels: light, medium, and deep depending upon the strength of the peeling agent used and the skin condition being treated. During this procedure, chemical solutions will be applied to the area being treated, which causes the skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off. Once this happens, the new skin underneath is often smoother, appears less wrinkled, and may have less damage. Common indications for chemical peels are wrinkles and fine lines, sun damage, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, scars, melasma and uneven skin tone or redness. The procedure can be performed safely by a trained dermatologist to produce desired effects. It is important to take certain precautions and preparatory measures before undergoing the procedure, which will be explained by your treating dermatologist before the procedure. Recovery time varies depending on which chemical peel you received. However, recovery time is generally less than 7 days for superficial and medium depth peels.
